Family event: Bonfire

Saturday, October 22, 5:30 – 8 p.m.
Simmons Farm, 170 Simmons Rd., McMurray, PA 15317

Come one, come all to celebrate fall with a hayride and bonfire! We will take a hayride around the farm, and then enjoy a fall-inspired dinner of roasted hot dogs and s’mores at our own private bonfire. The $35 cost includes the hayride, bonfire, hot dog dinner, and s’mores. SPACE IS LIMITED (approximately 10 families), so be sure to RSVP early to secure your place on the wagon. We also ask that you bring an item or two for the benefit of the event: chips (two bags), fruit, veggies and dip, or 2-liter beverages (two bottles).

In the RSVP include the names and ages of each person attending the event along with the food item from the above list you plan on bringing.

Please note, a wait list will be created if all the slots are filled in case of cancellation, so please contact Stephanie Cooper if you would like to be put on it once all the slots are filled.

September Book Club: Left to Tell

Please join us on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:30, at Brenda Holt de Wollman’s home (1265 Star Ridge Dr) for September’s book club meeting to discuss Immaculee Llibagiza’s novel, Left to Tell. Even if (or perhaps especially if) the last thing you read was Good Night, Moon, please come for the laughter, food and drinks. I know this has been written often, but if you don’t have time to read the book please come anyway. Reading the book may be an easy way to create a common connection, but forming friendships certainly doesn’t involve required reading.

Couples Event: Seasonal Beer & Cookie Exchange

Deck the halls with beer and cookies!

Grab your date and join us at the Beck’s home (2666 Gloucester Drive) to celebrate the season with a festive beer and cookie exchange. The exact quantity of beer and cookies you should bring depends upon how many people are coming, so please RSVP early if you can.

Adam and Lindsay will provide light hors d’oeuvres, so all you need to bring are your exchange items! Come for the craft beer and cookies, stay to make friends with your fellow newcomers!

Let’s do the Time Warp again! Celebrate the Halloween season with Rocky Horror. See a performance of a medley of your favorite Rocky Horror numbers by the Junior Chamber of Commerce Players, Pittsburgh’s official Rocky Horror Picture Show floorshow cast. Then, discover the science of reanimation with our live science show, Frankenscience. Enjoy live music from local rock band Expen$e, four floors of exhibits, and cash bars!

Walk/run to end childhood cancer

St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer

Grab your family and let’s head to the St. Jude Walk/Run. This one-mile fun run around Herrs Island is stroller friendly and combines two great loves: family and community. Additional fun will be found in the Kid Zone with painting, games, and cartooning.

The Walk/Run entry fee is $10 per participant for those ages 6+. (kiddos 5 and under are free)

Register with Team USC Newcomers on the St. Jude website..

Don’t feel obligated to raise additional funds beyond the entry fee, but if you do there are some amazing prizes available. We have resources to assist with any fundraising.
