Rachel Moosa

This month’s feature member is Rachel Moosa.  She joined newcomers to make new friends in Upper Saint Clair.

Tell us about yourself: I am a British Mother of 9 year old twins. We moved to Pittsburgh a couple of years ago because my husband’s family is here. For the last 10 years we lived in Dubai. I also work full time (from home) as a Vice President for a Hotel company.

If you had $5,000,000 what would you do with the money and why? I would be an angel investor for women led start up companies.

If you could be any animal, what would you choose and why? Our English Bulldog puppy has a great life, I would trade with her.

If you could choose anything in the entire world for your last meal, what would it be? A dal makhni and naan bread from my favorite little restaurant in Dubai.

Which fictional place would you most like to visit and why? The Millennium Falcon with Han Solo and Chewie piloting it.

If you could only read/watch one book/movie for the rest of your life, what would you choose and why? Love Actually. I watch it every year to get in the mood for Christmas and it always makes me a little homesick for the UK.

What is the best place you’ve ever visited and why? I fell in love with Kenya the first time I visited and was lucky travel there many times on business. It is a beautiful country with breathtaking scenery and wildlife, and wonderful people.

What is the luckiest thing that has ever happened to you? I have been so lucky in life but I am especially lucky to have met my wonderful husband when we were both working in a hotel in Abu Dhabi.

If time travel were real: when and where in time would you go and why? I would love to see my Dad again, he passed away 10 years ago.
If you could wake up tomorrow and know absolutely everything about ONE thing… what would it be and why? Construction and building maintenance, I want to fix things but I just don’t know how!

Synopsis: In this extraordinary work, Beth Macy takes us into the epicenter of a national drama that has unfolded over two decades. From the labs and marketing departments of big pharma to local doctor’s offices; wealthy suburbs to distressed small communities in Central Appalachia; from distant cities to once-idyllic farm towns; the spread of opioid addiction follows a tortuous trajectory that illustrates how this crisis has persisted for so long and become so firmly entrenched.

Quarantine Kitchen

Saturday March 27, 2021 4:00 PM

Much of our lives are virtual these days. We’re working from home, video-calling family members, and keeping up with friends through social media. The current pandemic has invited us to turn to new forms of entertainment we can participate in from home, including virtual social events. One way to mix up your home-bound routine is through a Zoom cooking class. There’s no reason to go out to learn new kitchen skills and cook a delicious meal; Chef Shawn Culp will come straight to you via your home computer.

Take the family on a virtual trip to Florence, Italy, where Chef Shawn will teach you how to prepare traditional pasta from scratch using a pasta machine. Don’t have a pasta machine, no problem. Chef Shawn will have his kid chef show you how to roll it out with a rolling pin. Chef Shawn will teach you the art of hand-cut pasta and the secrets to a flavorful tomato sauce, as well as professional tips and tricks for the kitchen. Additionally, you will make a fresh Caesar dressing and bake cookies. An authentic Italian experience, all without leaving your kitchen! But wait, this isn’t just for mom and dad. Young chefs will learn valuable culinary skills as they enjoy this hands-on experience as they chop, mix and roll their way to a delicious dish.

As a participant, you and your family will get a meal kit with all the ingredients to make fresh pasta, marinara sauce, Caesar dressing, and fresh-baked cookies.

Price: $45 – to be paid via Venmo to @Christina-Clodfelter

Skin Therapy by Lauren

Sunday March 14, 2021 5:30 PM

While vital to protect yourself and others from COVID-19, face masks are causing an uptick in acne. The humid and sticky environment your mask creates around your face lends itself to breakouts around the nose, cheeks, mouth, and chin. You are not alone. This condition, known as “maskne” (mask acne), is a common side effect of using a mask for prolonged periods. Maskne doesn’t merely cause pimples, though. It may also result in skin issues, including redness, bumpiness, and irritation.

If you, your spouse, teen, tween, son, or daughter are concerned about maskne, join licensed esthetician and USC mom Lauren Fritz-Gibbs as she explains what maskne is and how to prevent it. She will also talk about how nutrition affects the skin.

As a participant, you and your family will get a Himalayan clay mask to apply during the seminar, a facial silicon scrub brush, a microfiber towel. You will also get a car kit to help with on-the-go mask organization and skin therapy to keep men, women, kids smiling under the masks!

When: Sunday, March 14th at 5:30 pm
Price: $35 – to be paid via Venmo to @Christina-Clodfelter
RSVP by Saturday, March 6th

Participants will be emailed regarding pick up days and times.
