USC Community Day

Community Day is right around the corner – May 18th at the old Rec Center!

This year our Community Day booth has been overhauled and revamped with some great new ideas! One of the new attractions of our booth will be various gift baskets that are going to raffled off that day. We are creating the baskets to reflect the various activities that Newcomers have to offer.

Since Community Day is a great way to showcase the club and what we do to prospective members, we would love to have as many club members as possible to help with this event.

Here are ways that you can help Newcomers on Community Day:

1. Volunteer to work a shift at the event. (Husbands are welcomed too! At least 4 husbands have been told..I mean..volunteered to work so far!) Volunteers will receive a snazzy Newcomer’s T-shirt that we would like you to wear while you volunteer, but its yours to keep!

2. Donate cash or a gift card appropriate to a basket theme, for example, a Barnes and Noble gift card for Book Club. We will also seek donations from local businesses.

3. Donate items for the gift baskets. Here is a list of the basket themes and suggested donations:

Moms & Tots – Outdoor Fun – bubbles, sunscreen, sand toys, sidewalk chalk, beach towel, jump rope.
Couples Events – Progressive Dinner – Spanish themed non-perishable food basket (olives, etc).
Family Events – Family game night – board and card games, snacks, etc.
Book Club – books, gift cards, trendy bookmarks.
Ladies Entertainment – gift cards, local eatery menus, local wines, local winery tour information, wine gift sets.
Craft Night – scrapbook items, yarn, sewing items, painting supplies.
Membership – This basket will sell the club – include a free membership and only be eligible for prospective members. It should include a brochure (reasons to join & benefits of membership), a Newcomers T-shirt, notepad and grocery bag. Recent In USC magazine, USC town book, recent USC CRC book, Pittsburgh tourist books/pamphlets, Summer Library schedule, etc.

Please contact Jean Lesogor or Julie Williams to make arrangements for donation pick ups. We’ll come to you to make it easier!

Also, if you’re planning on running the 5K on Community Day, please contact us for a Newcomer’s t-shirt. We would love to have you represent the club as you’re running that day!
